For this reason, only customers with active Software Assurance on Configuration Manager licenses, or with equivalent subscription rights, may install and use the current branch of Configuration Manager. It's intended for customers who allow Software Assurance or equivalent subscription rights to expire.
When compared to the current branch, the LTSB has reduced functionality. Customers who allow Software Assurance or equivalent subscription rights to expire must uninstall the current branch of Configuration Manager. Customers who have perpetual license rights to Configuration Manager may then install and use the LTSB build of the Configuration Manager version that's current at the time of expiration. SA is an option for a customer that's renewing SA coverage from a prior agreement.
Software Assurance SA : Customers must have active SA on Configuration Manager licenses, or equivalent subscription rights, in order to install and use the current branch option of Configuration Manager. While SA is optional for some Microsoft products, the only way to get rights to use Configuration Manager current branch is with SA or equivalent subscription rights.
If your SA expires, and you still have a license for Configuration Manager, you can no longer use the current branch.
For more information about license offerings, see Ways to buy and Licensing Product Terms. There can be others, but these programs are the most common.
Configuration Manager isn't included in the Microsoft Business Premium plan. The co-management license lets Configuration Manager customers with Software Assurance get Intune PC management rights without having to purchase and assign individual Intune licenses to users. This license makes it easier for you to manage Windows devices with Microsoft Endpoint Manager. Devices already managed by Configuration Manager that you enroll to Intune for co-management have almost the same rights as an Intune standalone-managed PC.
If you reset Windows on this device, you can't provision it with Windows Autopilot. Autopilot requires a full Intune license. If you enroll a Windows device to Intune by other means, it still requires a full Intune license. For example, you use Autopilot to provision a device, or a user manually does self-service enrollment. It builds on the experience and depth of the previous versions, and you can take your management capabilities even farther with Azure security and management capabilities, giving you visibility and control of data and applications that live across multiple systems from a single solution. The following table compares the three System Center client ML offerings:. Core licenses are sold in packs of two a 2-pack Core License and each processor needs to be licensed with a minimum of eight cores four 2-pack Core Licenses.

SCOM is an infrastructure- and server-focused tool that provides powerful monitoring services.
The following table from Microsoft outlines the various capabilities of the SCOM management licenses. DPM , Microsoft's answer to the data protection question, provides full backup services to servers as well as other Microsoft products such as Exchange and SharePoint.
In simplest terms, Microsoft says:. SCVMM provides centralized virtual machine management capabilities and is licensed like DPM: server and client are sort of licensed together.
The Workgroup Edition can manage up to five physical hosts with no additional licensing required. Beyond five hosts, you need the Enterprise license for a host. An unlimited number of OSEs can be managed on each host. SCSM , the newest entry in the System Center line, is a help desk ticketing system that tightly integrates with other System Center products to help automate IT service management. SCSM has server and client licensing requirements. SCSM includes client and server management licenses as described below.
Sign in to vote. Thursday, December 18, PM. Please define "manage software licenses". What should it do exactly? ConfigMgr does not provide license "management". The most it can do is license inventory. It can, but it's not very robust or elaborate and gives no real benefits other than adding the numbers to a report.
As mentioned, it's nothing more than a simple inventory. It is no way reconciles or tracks actual usage. You can absolutely do that.
