Windows error 49

The first group policy applied to all users and redirected their personal folders to the server. The second applied only to a subset of users who were members of a group; they were to map a folder on the server which their security group was given permission for.

I used security filtering to apply the GPO to these users only. I don't remember if authenticated users was on that list. This worked. Things broke when I tried to add a third GPO with security filtering for another group of users to map a different folder. Two of three machines throw an error when refreshing group policy, but one machine can refresh the GPO just fine.

I deleted the third GPO and things didn't return to normal. Is it possible to get and share the contents of the error log when a gpupdate runs and fails? Does it provide any more information than error 49? The server name and organization name have been replaced with a surrogate. Below is an excerpt from the text files at the dropbox link.

Error 1: The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not authenticate to the Active Directory service on a domain controller. LDAP Bind function call failed. Look in the details tab for error code and description. Error 2: The processing of Group Policy failed.

Windows could not resolve the computer name. This could be caused by one of more of the following: a Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller. ORG AD. No authentication protocol was available. And, this happens all the time, without fail on the two clients which produce the errors, correct? I have gone through and verified everything to answer your questions:. Typically not a big deal, but might be worth a check to see if the troubled clients have multiple A records which point at another network attached device.

You should be free to delete any A record for the clients - even if it's the right one, the client machine should register itself in DNS again. This is done on the clients themselves, yes? In addition, all clients are local, and none are going through different switch gear or proxy or firewall or anything the working one is not.

Expand your server. Expand your Forward Lookup Zones. Highlight ourorganization. Sort by Name to find the name s of the broken client s. Verify the correct addresses are listed as Host A records. Presumably, there only needs to be one for the active, current network connection. Expand the DHCP server. Expand IPv4. Expand Scope. Select the Scope Options. Do you have " DNS Servers" listed? While I am thinking about that, are you sure that the switch for the wired network is not running any DHCP of its own and it does not have an incorrect DNS server configuration?

If this clears the error, reconnect each component one at a time, and then print a Configuration page after each component is replaced. If the error reoccurs after reconnecting one of the components, replace the component.

If this solves the error, there is no need to continue troubleshooting. Find the printer model and click the link to redirect to the firmware download page on HP. Scroll to either the FutureSmart 3 or FutureSmart 4 section.
