Does swtor work with windows 8
I'm not making any promises to whether or not it'll work For starters, I installed SWTOR on my D drive , but if it can save someone some time, then great. This is a more detailed version of my answer. Excellent work. Thank you for this detailed guide. At step 7 I unchecked everything except "Force Administrator access" and it worked for me.
Maybe someone can tell me why it does even exists if it isn't needed. It is technically needed, but only once. It's the installer for the Visual Vtudio redistributable dlls. Ideally, it'd only need to be installed once, but for some reason Bioware runs it on every launch.
For me, the default settings didn't work. But using just "Force Administrator access" did work. Show 4 more comments. I successfully run the program using Compatibility Mode for Windows This still needs to be tested properly. Godfist28 Godfist28 11 1 1 bronze badge. Matthew Read Matthew Read I installed the game into a folder where everyone has full access, and it still requires admin permissions.
Trisped Interesting, it works for me. I have Win8, are you using a different version? I tried it with Windows 7 and Windows Sign up or log in Sign up using Google. Sign up using Facebook. I have tried every conceivable option in my settings in and out of the game, I have tried Administrator settings, I have tried compatibility modes from XP to 7 and even Vista.
Still the game will not stay stable. Some days it will run just fine with no crashes at all. Others it will crash out within moments of logging in. It happens when there are high particle effects, it happens when I'm standing in an empty fleet or even on my ship. I have read forum posts that date back to last year, this problem lies with ToR, people have been leaving the game because of this issue. I myself left awhile back because of the frustrations I had and am still having.
Many people say to just go to or back to Windows 7, myself and many other players do not have the luxury of doing so. Either due to the computer not being able to make the swap, or due to not being able to afford it, or simply do not feel that it is right to have to change an entire operating system just for a single game when everything else on the computer works fine.
I for one do not feel I should have to change my operating system just for a single game having issues. I personally do not like Windows 8, I am by no means a fanboy of the OS. Personally I would rather have 7, but as stated above, I do not have this luxury or a computer that can make the transition, and nor should I have to.
This problem needs to be Addressed now. This has gone on long enough, if you or someone you know has had a problem with this, please post and rate. Thank you for reading. I have no issues with swtor and windows 8, i can open the launcher and hit play just as well with no diff in performance compared to windows 7 but i do however think the patching system needs a look at tho as every week a new patch comes out i see post that a patch cannot be installed I usually let it up over the top if its only a small update like 2.
NicAX Of cause you should not have to downgrade your OS to run the game. I personally have run this game without issue on 3 different Windows 8 setups and know of may people who do the same.
Windows 8's compatibility with the game is not the issue. This could indicate that the game is clashing with another program you are running. Thanks for the feedback. However the problem exists in that it crashes even when my Anti-virus isn't running a scan. It also crashes while nothing else is running, other programs, etc. At most I run a voice chat for groups in guild or with friends. As far as my settings in game go for graphics, I keep them down low because I don't want to push it.
PurSid I have been running Win 8 since customer preview and have had no Win 8 related issues. Just make sure your video card and other items that plug in to your computer have drivers for Win 8. I know Nvidia has had drivers out since Jan. Eillack Windows 8 is a waste to download haha, I'd stick with Windows 7 and wait awhile for Windows 9. Holocron Quote: Originally Posted by PurSid.
